ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY - LISA NGUYEN AND JEN CHEN - New York Fashion Week SS2012

- PHOTOGRAPHER: RANDY BROOKE

Lisa Nguyen, a Los Angeles, California native, earned her B.A. in Public Health at the University of California Berkeley, before switching career paths. Lisa pursued her M.F.A. in Men’s Wear Design. She collaborated with Jen Chen, M.F.A. Textile Design, on a collection inspired by the idea of intergalactic combat wear, creating pieces that are multi-functional and have a protective element using a combination of GORE-TEX®, ballistic nylon, cotton, and wool.

Jen Chen grew up in Fremont, California, attending nearby University of California, Berkeley and earning a dual degree in Architecture and Asian Studies. While pursuing her M.F.A. in Textile Design, she honed her skills as a Design Intern at Abercrombie & Fitch, and as a Textile Design Intern at Williams-Sonoma. She also participated in The Collaborative Print Project at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2010, and even designed a print for Azzedine Alaïa. She collaborated with Lisa Nguyen on a men’s wear collection.

Hues Of Blue
My good buddy, Lisa Gnuyen, sent her amazing Menswear Collection down the runway this past S/S/ 2012 NYFW at the AAU show. Here is a photo of one of her looks that Sowelldress wrote about.
Mix and match those Blue hues people.
I’m proud of you Lisa, way to represent.  View high resolution

Here is another piece that I helped make for Cut 25. It was a bag made out of soft leather, lambskin, I believe. My friend had designed the awesome weaving pattern in the front of it. I had constructed the actual bag and made the prototype a few times, using cardboard. It was fun and makes me want to design bags now. haha Hopefully it will get produced. I mean, there are people out there ready to rock something bold like this… especially with ‘construction’ orange as a main color.  View high resolution

Trying to prep for school and NY Fashion Week (NYFW)trip, but all I can think about is NYFW.  Reflecting on my BCBG experience during NYFW just makes me wonder how crazy it is over there. This picture was taken when I helped the Max Azria team prep &fit models, or help pack garments and grab more yardage for the New York. I never would have thought I’d see NYFW in action so soon. At the time at BCBG, it all seemed like a foreign, long lost wonderland that’s million miles away from my reach.
I can just imagine how  chaotic and intense it is over at BCBG right now. (Shout out to my friend, Joon, working in the Max Azria team- Her perseverance, strength, and advice will always push me) View high resolution
