Been in the ‘hoops’ mood lately, but let’s do some chains and beads today. (From Beacon’s Closet in Williamsburg)
Prepping for my mini Valentine’s Campaign
To jump start my convertible Turban Line, INEZGALVEZ, I’ve decided to throw a ‘Valentine’s Preview & Cocktail Party’ in my local, Brooklyn loft. This accessory line has been an evolving side-project and has been getting me by here in NYC. So why not start by throwing a party? This past weekend, my creative side-kick, Avalonne, and I have been on a surprisingly productive streak. We worked on our mini campaign that includes a Flyer and ‘Vday Video Invite’ from yours truly. Will show you the end products very soon. Until then, check out our ‘In-The-Making’ pictures of our process.
I made a Photo Booth Station, where guests can play with props, wear my turbans, and get their pictures taken. Alongside that, Avalonne and I started brainstorming display ideas for the 5 Valentine Turbans that I’m promoting for this romantic season.( Promo Price will be available online from 2.10-2.19, more details coming soon)
Avalonne had the great idea of making heart shaped frames out of ‘Pipe-Cleaners’.

Setting up the frames and hand-picked turbans exclusive for the Valentine’s Promotion.

The Photo Booth D.I.Y. Process
Ended up pulling an all-nighter for this one. I first did a ‘test’ sample, just to make sure it turned out alright. In the end, it was actually much simpler than expected. So the final frame was easier to make. I connected card stock until I was happy with a good enough frame size. Free-handed a design sketch, nothing too perfect. Colored in the shapes that I knew I wanted to keep. Then Avalonne helped me playfully tape Hot Pink and Violet duck tape on the other side. We carefully cut out the design and…*drumroll please*…Wallah! We had our Photo Booth frame.

It was fun and productive weekend and I can’t thank my trusty partner, Avalonne, enough for all her creative input and help.
Happy 4th of July
My roommate just moved in yesterday! =) Arriving from San Francisco with her dog named, Pony. We celebrated with early toasts for this holiday weekend, had long- inspiring conversations, and of course, celebrated being roomies in our temporary brooklyn home. I’m so lucky to share this space with a very talented lady. She got an internship with a big designer, Duckie Brown. I can’t wait to put our internships side by side and really learn about NYC Fashion companies. By the end of August, she’ll be off to Paris where she got into a influential design program! AMAZING and TALENTED I tell you.
The sun came out to greet and celebrate with me as I walked home. It knew the last thing I wanted to wear was my hoodie and scarf. Lol cmon, it’s summer!
Last critique of summer school…ever! It was a success, I feel proud of my work and proud of my peers! Now let’s take TRY and enjoy two weeks of summer before the REAL DEAL.
GIVING BIRTH to Book #2.
As much as I try to do so much work before deadline, I always find myself dying minutes before. My heart is going crazy. 45 minutes till critique!!!
Been here for about 4.5 hrs bc we’re all perfectionists. Saw them 4 times in 5 days. But look, out of all the trials and errors, they won’t fail to make it happen. Perfecting the colors of the prints, the placements on illustrator, aligning of 2 books…it’s reflecting the energy that has been bottled up inside me. Chaotic and colorful, that’s me! The end.
a part from my main design portfolio. im making a book of inspiration, a small 8.5x5.5 book of collages and illustrations based on my research.
I probably should have mentioned this already, but my inspiration is based on when “East Meets the West”. The time of Captain Cook discovering exotic lands such as the Polynesia islands and Morocco.
there is no direct and literal translation. i guess you can say that i’m creating a world of my own. it’s fiction, a bit of satire, and all together beautiful. i named the project “Birds Of Paradise” because i just want you to lust the foreign and exotic.
OFF TO KAYLA’S!!!
I had to stop by her apartment, just down the street from me. She’s my “go-to” person, always helps me sort through the crazy visions I have going on in my head, and who could actually converse with my soul. haha As EPIC as that sounds, it’s true she’s like therapy. At the moment, I’m in dire need to just vomit out all these ideas for this up coming collection. Let’s cross our fingers for perfection and… MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Stalk her flickr and see how amazing she is.
Inez stopped by this evening and walked me through her inspirations for the collection she’s working on. Inspired by the architectural shapes of Morrocco and the body art of Polynesia, she splayed out pictures of scalloped arches and African kings, fabric swatches, and gorgeous watercolor croquis on my floor. I cannot wait to see the final product!
